The Nightmare Man

The Nightmare Man, trader of terrors

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well and aren’t missing the sunshine too much. It’s lovely and autumnal here in the northeast at the time of writing – my favourite time of the year.

I’m sharing another poem with you today, I hope you enjoy it!

The Nightmare Man

Come and sell away your dreams
It’s the bad ones in which I deal
Give me all of your nightly terrors
And I’ll sell them for a steal

Give me all the darkness
Or maybe trade it for some more
There are many different shades of demon
Just waiting to come ashore

In your mind, they’ll sleep til nighttime
When they’ll wake and run amok
They will frighten you halfway to death
Until the crowing of the cock

Then I shall buy them back from you
Sell to another slumbering soul
And you can buy another dream
One that’s black as blackest coal

We’ll go on like this until the end
Or until you dreams turn light
But even then, I’ll still be watching
From the shadows of the night

As always, thank you for reading my words, I really do appreciate it.

Until next time,

George

  1. As ever, poetry can hardly be judged on face value. Your poem will be quite negative and scary to some, but to others, it is quite a reflection on human nature….the way life is for most of us – the demon inside, waiting for its opportunity to. ????
