Autumnal Delights

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. It’s finally autumn again, my favourite season, with its warm, earthy tones and smells, so I thought I’d share a poem with you inspired by some of my favourite Autumnal Delights.

Autumnal Delights

The gloom encapsulates the days,
With dark mornings and dark nights,
But this is when I come alive,
Buoyed by autumn’s delights!

Often there’s mist hanging around,
At the breaking of the day.
At dusk, the starlings start to dance,
In a magical display.

The leaves begin to slowly age
And the trees all start to shed,
Carpeting the ground all around
In oranges, golds and reds.

The blackberries are ripening,
And conkers are falling, too,
Dropping from their cosy branches,
Onto glistening autumn dew.

But autumn doesn’t last for long,
And, although I wish it would,
It’s wintertime that’s coming next,
And Winter is just as good!

Thanks, as ever, for stopping by to read my words. What are some of your favourite things about autumn?

Until next time,

George

  1. Beautiful poem. I love autumn because of the cool temperatures, the leaves, and the extra hour of sleep.

  2. Autumn is definitely a beautiful time of year when you live in areas where the leaves change. I have since moved to a place that doesn’t have it so of course I miss it now. lol Your poem beautifully encapsulates the essence that I miss. Thanks for sharing.
