Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. I’m sharing another poem with you today, and I hope you enjoy it.

But…

If you say, “I’m not racist, but…”
You’ll leave a heaviness in the air,
For all the words that follow next
Unmask what’s truly there.

If you say, “I’m not homophobic but…”
You’ll split that mask you wear in two.
Hatred hides behind your false smile,
But your venom still leaks through.

If you say “I’m a feminist, but…”
Then your prejudice is plain to see;
You don’t really want all people
To have total equality.

Each but reveals your venom,
Each but cuts to the bone,
For if you led with your humanity,
You’d leave that but alone.
