Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Books I Would or Wouldn’t Reread and Why

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2025 here. If you’re interested in reading other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can do so here.

Books I Would or Wouldn’t Reread and Why

There are several books that I reread semi-regularly.

A Christmas Carol‘. ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas‘. Skipping Christmas‘. I read these to help get me into the festive mood during the holidays.

Practical Magic’
This is one of my favourite books. I love all four books in the series, but the first is my favourite. It has everything you could want in a book: magic, family drama, a bit of romance, and there’s a bit of creepiness in the form of a dead man who seems intent on continuing his abuse of his ex, Gillian (one of the main characters).

My book of ‘Grimm Brother’s Fairy Tales
I never tire of fairy tales, and the Grimm versions are some of the best.

My book of ‘Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales‘.
I love The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Pea and The Snow Queen. Andersen has a lovely way of telling stories.

I wouldn’t reread ‘A Dog’s Purpose‘ again — it was an outstanding book, but once was enough. I can’t take the emotional overload.

The novelisation of ‘Grease’. It was simply atrocious. Told from Sonny’s point of view, the story is all over the place, and some of it doesn’t make sense.

I wouldn’t read ‘Orbital’ again. I really tried to ‘get’ that book, but the whole thing was lost on me. I don’t think I was the intended audience because those people who believe they were loved it.

Well, that’s post 40! Jeez, the year is whizzing by!

As ever, thanks for stopping by. It means the world!

Until next time,

George

  1. I think we’ve talked about this before, but I reread A Christmas Carol every December!

And I had no idea there was a Grease novel.

    • I don’t know what it is with A Christmas Carol. I’ve read it many times and it never gets boring or tiresome. I’ve rewatched all the adaptations over the years (sometimes one after another) and it never gets old. Perhaps it’s a nostalgia thing. And as for the Grease novelisation… the less said the better. 🤣

  2. If you enjoy audiobooks, there’s a version on Audible with Patrick Stewart narrating that is fantastic. Ugh, any book that drags me through an emotional wringer is not re-read worthy!

    Here is my post.

  3. I will probably be reading Orbital so it is good to know if I don’t sync with it I will be in good company.

    • I just didn’t get Orbital. But lots of other people did. I know some who rave about it like it’s the best thing ever written. I guess it just wasn’t for me. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it when/if you read it. 😊

  4. Great list. I don’t reread Christmas books, I rewatch Christmas movies which in a way is cheating. The older telling of some of the fairy tales are the best, I understand why they are nicened up by Disney but also miss that moral they are telling in the originals

  5. Those classics are so worth the read. I had no idea they novelized Grease. I think I will skip it.
