Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today, I’m sharing another poem with you, and I hope you enjoy it!
Yellow Wellies
I had a pair of yellow wellies
Brighter than the sun,
I wore them through the puddles
That I’d jump into for fun.
I wore them when the sky was blue,
When rain had stayed away,
Just in case the clouds were planning
To change their minds that day.
I’d stomp across the garden path,
Over gravel, grass, and stone,
They made the world feel safe somehow,
Like it was mine alone.
My parents tried to talk me round—
“Take them off,” they’d gently say,
But I’d keep my feet in those rubber boots
And wear them anyway.
I wore them in the house at night,
On carpets, stairs, in bed,
My feet still dressed for muddy days
When sleep was in my head.
And when the time to part had come,
All cracked and split with wear,
I cried the day we threw them out—
My wellies no longer there.
And though they had to leave my feet,
Those wellies never stray—
They splash still inside my heart
On every rainy day.
Thank you, as always, for reading my words!
Until next time,
George
