Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Things I Like to Do on Stormy Days

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. It’s Wednesday, and it’s time for my sixth post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. You can check out this year’s list of topics here if you’d like to join in, and you can read other people’s thoughts about this topic here.

Things I Like to Do on Stormy Days

Oooh, I love a good storm. Usually, storms occur in the summer here in the UK when the weather is warm. Often, storms come along just when the temperature becomes unbearable – and with each crash of thunder, the air gets increasingly cooler.

There are only three things I like to do on stormy days.

1 Sit at the Window and Watch the Storm Happen
My favourite thing to do on a stormy day is to sit at my bedroom window, which overlooks a small grassy field surrounded by trees, and watch the storm happen. Often, the road beyond the field will quickly clear, leaving nothing but the sound of clashing thunder and the pitter-patter of raindrops as they fall against the window and through the leaves on the trees just outside. It’s rather magical, really.

2 Read a Book Whilst Listening to the Thunder and Rain
One of the most peaceful places I can find myself is on my sofa beneath my living room window with a book in my hand and the sound of a storm rolling outside. There’s something serene about a thunderstorm that gets me breathing slowly and deeply. I even sometimes nod off.

3 Go for a Walk
My husband’s favourite thing to do on a stormy day is to walk mid-storm. I have to admit when he first suggested many years ago that we go for a stroll beneath the thick black clouds and sheet rain, I thought he had completely lost his marbles. However, after I agreed to go with him, I found it a very tranquil experience. Whenever I’m out during a storm, I feel connected to nature in a way I never do at any other time.

So, there we go; that’s post six done, and I’m looking forward to reading about what you all like to do on stormy days.

As always, thanks for reading this week’s post. It means a lot that you stopped by, and I really appreciate your time!

Until next time,

George

  3. I can’t remember the last thunderstorm we’ve had. Must have been last summer. But one year we did get thundersnow which was cool. This winter, one decent snow and lots of rain (in Eastern Pennsylvania in the US).

  4. I’m with you: I love storms. I really don’t think there are any bad activities you can do during a storm.

  5. The walk idea is interesting and attractive. The next storm we have, I’m going for it, though I think the walks might be more pleasant in seasons other than winter.

  6. When I was a kid, my grandparents had a screened in porch in their back yard. I loved to sit out there with my book and read while it poured down.

  7. I used to be terrified of storms when I was little. Then one night I got to watch one roll in, and I fell in love with them. My wife and I took a cruise for our honeymoon and on the last day at sea, we got to watch a storm chase the ship. So cool.

  8. Watching the storm can be scary, but it’s fun!

What we in Virginia call a snowstorm is usually fun to walk in. (We blather about our blizzards because we’ve never seen a serious one.) Walking in a thunderstorm might be more of a thrill but I knew someone who was disabled for life, and died around age 50, as a result of being struck by lightning.

I completely get each one of your stormy day activities! Especially that last one. I usually avoid going out in storms, but now that you’ve reminded me, it’s actually pretty great to go for a walk – if for no other reason than that when you get home you’re extra cosy!! I also love your description of how storms happen in summer – it’s so evocative I could feel the air cooling around me. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed this post!
