Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and time for the next post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you want to join in the challenge, you can find the topics for 2023 here, and if you’d like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can find them here.
Sports I’ve Tried and What I Thought of Them
I’ve never really been a sporty person. Growing up, I was more likely to be found with my head in a book than running around with my peers, although, as I’ve mentioned before, I used to wrestle with my siblings.
I also was ‘heavily encouraged’ (read forced) to play football in primary school because “football is a man’s game!” Yup, that’s what they’d say to a six/seven-year-old me. All that served to do was make me resent the sport and the teacher.
I did like to play with the hula hoop when I was a youngster. I’d spend hours trying (and failing) to get that plastic hoop to swing around my hips. I loved playing tag, too – is that a sport?
As I got older, I discovered that I enjoyed swimming – or rather, I relished the feeling of having swum. I always feel so relaxed after even a 30-minute swim. There’s no feeling like it, though it’s been a few years since I’ve been. My body has changed so much over the years, and I’ve become far more self-conscious than ever. Swimming, however, is on my list of future goals as I continue my recovery.
Speaking of my recovery.
When I began to get ill with disordered eating, I used exercise to burn off calories I didn’t have to spare though I didn’t enjoy it. It was more of a compulsion. I actually cried more than a few times because I didn’t want to do it, yet I couldn’t stop myself at the same time. It was so bad at one point that I’d get up at 4 am and jog on the spot at the top of the stairs until 9 am. I would always end up in so much pain, and because I always jogged in bare feet on carpeted floors, my soles were often a shredded bloody mess. Also, of course, I had zero energy left to do anything else for the rest of the day. As you might imagine, life was pretty miserable back then. I haven’t done any exercise other than walking in just over a year, although the impulse to do it has not left me yet. At this point, I doubt it ever will. I’ve learned to ignore it, however, so that’s progress.
So, sport and I really haven’t gotten on all that well.
Anyway, that’s enough outta me! This was the 14th post in the challenge, and I’m still hanging in there!
I’m looking forward to reading about all of your sporty experiences.
As always, thanks so much for stopping by. I really appreciate it.
Until next time,
George

I never got the hula hoop going, either, but tag was fun.
