Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well! We’re at the beginning of a heatwave at the time of writing and so I hope you’re all managing to keep safe while you’re enjoying the sun. Though, if you’re anything like me, you’ll be mentally willing autumn and winter to hurry along.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about getting older and about all the expectations we put on ourselves when we’re young, and so with that in mind, I’d like to share this poem with you today. I hope you enjoy it!
36 Years and Counting On
Thirty-six years and counting on
What happened to all those days?
I was meant to go and do some stuff,
And to grow in so many ways.
Shouldn’t I feel now fully grown,
And be living a life that’s full?
Shouldn’t I now feel stable and calm
In the midst of Life’s push and pull?
But I feel stranded on an Island,
With time’s river roaring by,
And while others are drenched in living
I’m afraid to even try.
I worry one day I’ll come to find-
If I’m lucky to reach old age –
That the river will be all but gone,
Its bed as dry as sage
So at thirty-six years and counting on
I think my mind is set,
I’ll jump in now ‘for it’s too late,
And live while the river is wet!
As always, thanks so much for spending your time with me today, it really does mean a lot!
Until next time,
George
