My Truest Friend

My Truest Friend

Hello everyone, I’ve been working on a poem and I thought that I’d share it with you all. It’s about the most beautiful creature who ever lived, my dog, Sasha. She lived with me for 18 years but sadly, four years ago we had to let her go.
I never thought that I would be able to find the words to express what she meant to me, though this poem, which has been rattling around in my brain for a while in bits and pieces, is what came out when I tried.

I know some people think that a dog is just a dog, but to me and mine, they have always been members of our family.

You can find more poetry here. I hope you enjoy it!

My Truest Friend

At a time when I was friendless
And sequestered away from life
You showed me love so endless
And you saved me from my strife

Without your warmth, I would have gone
Into empty, infinite night
But your soul shone big and bright as dawn
And with me, you shared your light

Like the kiss of life, you brought me back
From the brink of my despair
You guided me through a world of black
And put laughter back in the air

I wish you could have stayed forever
My saviour and truest friend
But between our hearts, there’s still a tether
And I know you’ll be waiting at the end

A truest friend

As always, I appreciate you spending your valuable time reading my words.

Until next time,

George

  1. Aww, what is it with dogs and death today? I’ll soon be bawling like a baby! Thanks so much for that exquisitely painful final line, George. 🙂
