10 of My Favourite Christmas Animated Films

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well! Today, I thought I’d share some of my favourite animated Christmas-themed films with you! I wonder if your favourites are on the list.

One of my favourite things to do during the holidays is to sit down all cosy with a hot drink to watch Christmas films—and some of my favourites are animated films from my childhood—and some more recent ones!

So, without further ado, here are:

10 of My Favourite Christmas Animated Films

Arthur Christmas
On Christmas Eve, Father Christmas’ fleet‑style sleigh called the S-1, led by his businesslike son Steve, is delivering gifts worldwide. Meanwhile, Arthur—his awkward but earnest younger son—discovers a single present was mistakenly left undelivered. Determined to right this wrong, he enlists his retired grandfather and a plucky elf named Bryony for a high-stakes mission in the old-fashioned sleigh to deliver the gift to a little girl in Cornwall before dawn.

The Snowman
Ah, the snowman! A boy builds a snowman that magically comes to life one winter night. Together, they head to the North Pole, where they meet up with Father Christmas at a snowman party. The film is wordless, relying on visuals and music to convey its gentle, dreamlike tale of wonder, friendship, and magic.

The Snowman and The Snow Dog
Prepare yourself for an emotional rollercoaster ride with this one. It’s a follow-up to The Snowman and follows a boy who, after losing his beloved dog, moves into the same house from the original film. Beneath a floorboard, he finds the familiar scarf, hat, coal, and dried-up tangerine, inspiring him to build his own snowman—and a playful snowdog to keep it company. At midnight, they spring to life: the trio explore the house, discover a vintage plane, and soar across a snowy England to a festive snowmen party at the North Pole. Father Christmas rewards Billy with a magical dog collar that brings the snowdog to life as a real puppy.

A Charlie Brown Christmas
Charlie Brown has a difficult time with the increasing commercialism surrounding Christmas. Feeling down, he seeks meaning by directing the school Christmas play. When his choice of a small Christmas tree is mocked by his peers, Charlie feels even more disheartened. However, with help from his friends, they come to value the true essence of Christmas.

Bah, Humduck!
Daffy Duck plays a miserly boss of a superstore who despises Christmas and mistreats his employees. That night, Daffy is paid a visit by some ghosts: his deceased investor, Sylvester and the Ghosts of Christmas Past (Granny and Tweety), Present (Yosemite Sam) and Yet to Come (Tasmanian Devil). They show him his lonely childhood in an orphanage, the suffering of his staff, and a grim future where he’s dead and unloved. Touched by Kind-hearted Porky Pig’s daughter Priscilla, Daffy learns the error of his ways,

A Flintstone Christmas Carol
The citizens of Bedrock stage a theatrical version of A Christmas Carol, and Fred Flintstone lands the starring role of Ebenezer Scrooge. However, he becomes so obsessed with the part that he neglects his family—forgetting to drop off and pick up Pebbles from daycare and ignoring Wilma. As the play progresses, an illness sidelines several actors, forcing Wilma to take on multiple roles.

On and off stage, Fred mirrors Scrooge’s selfish behaviour. Through the play’s classic ghostly visitations, paired with on-stage revelations, Fred experiences a sincere change of heart.

The Polar Express
A boy loses faith in the existence of Father Christmas—until a magical train—the Polar Express—heading for the North Pole—pulls up outside his house. Along with other children, he embarks on a thrilling journey filled with wonder, challenges, and self-discovery. As the train moves through snowy landscapes and over icy tracks, the boy learns about friendship, bravery, and the power of belief. By the end of the ride, he regains his faith in the magic of Christmas, discovering that sometimes, seeing isn’t believing—believing is seeing.

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (2022)
Set in 1843 London, it follows the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge (voiced by Luke Evans), who dismisses Christmas and refuses both charity and his nephew’s invitation while mistreating his clerk Bob Cratchit and his ill son Tiny Tim. That Christmas Eve, he’s paid a visit by the chained-up ghost of Jacob Marley, who warns him that he will suffer the same fate unless he changes. Throughout the night, Scrooge confronts his past, present, and future through encounters with the three Christmas spirits, witnessing the impact of his greed and ultimately transforming into a kinder, generous man.

That Christmas
Set in the snowy seaside town of Wellington‑on‑Sea, the story intertwines three tales: shy, newly arrived Danny copes with his parents’ divorce and finds an unexpected connection with his tough teacher during a school snow day; twins Sam and mischievous Charlie navigate sibling dynamics and kindness after a Christmas mix-up; and spirited tween Bernadette looks after a group of younger kids stranded when their parents are delayed because of an accident.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
This one is my favourite of Dr Seuss’ book of the same name. The Grinch is a cranky green creature who despises the joy and noise of Christmas in the nearby town of Whoville. Determined to stop the celebrations, he dresses himself up as Father Christmas, sneaking into town and stealing presents, decorations, and even food. But on Christmas morning, he’s dumbfounded when he hears the Whos all singing joyfully, showing that Christmas means more than material things. Moved by their joy, he gives back everything he stole, finally embracing the true spirit of Christmas.

What are some of your favourite animated Christmas-themed films? Let me know!

Thank you, as ever, for stopping by to read this week’s post!

Until next time,

George
