Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Song Lyrics that Made me Cringe

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well! Today is post number seven in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. Song Lyrics that Made me Cringe

Firework by Katy Perry
I actually like this song, but there’s one line that always makes me cringe:
“Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?”

I know it’s a metaphor, but it just sounds a bit half-assed.

Do They Know It’s Christmas by Bob Geldof (Band Aid)
Again, this is a song I really enjoy listening to, especially at Christmas, but the following lyrics are a little… I don’t know… they just feel wrong:
“And the Christmas bells that ring there, are the clanging chimes of doom. Well, tonight, thank God it’s them Instead of you”.

I mean, I think I know the point they’re trying to make, but… there might have been a better way of putting it.

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke
I remember enjoying the beat of this one when it came out, but when I stopped and actually listened to the lyrics…

”You want to hug me. What rhymes with hug me?” Enough said.

Well, that’s all I could come up with. I wonder which lyrics make you all cringe.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Until next time,

George

  1. I chose not to do this one because it would mean listening to a lot of modern music that sounds catchy but has ridiculous but ear-wormy lyrics. XD

  2. You picked some good ones, George!

I loathe blurred lines for so many different reasons.

  3. Love this list!

Firework by Katy Perry – that is a half-assed metaphor! wonder if there was any debate over whether or not to include it.

Do They Know It’s Christmas by Bob Geldof (Band Aid) – that is bad, really bad. I think, at that time, it must have rung true, or something(!!!).

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke – this one was never okay; but it had a good beat and was easy to dance to, so we’ll give it an 85. Didn’t it stop Thicke’s ascension to Pop royalty?

    good times 😂

  4. “Firework” was a never a favorite of mine. She has much better songs. The other two I don’t really listen to, though with “Do They Know It’s Christmas” there was a reason behind it.

I’m with you on these, especially Band Aid – that line always did make me wince.

  7. “What rhymes with hug me?” at least begs for parody responses…
