Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, so it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. Characters I Want to Meet

The first thing that came to mind when I read this week’s topic was, rather strangely, The Golden Girls. I’d love to meet every single one of them (the characters and the actresses, if they were still with us) because watching them snark and laugh and live on my TV every week growing up had a profound impact on my life; there was something about the experience of growing up as a gay kid in the 90s in a place where queerness wasn’t accepted, generally, that The Golden Girls lends itself to.

Maybe it’s the idea of a “chosen family” who accepts you no matter what (although, I must say, mine did and do) or perhaps it’s the positive representation of queer people on the show — I’m not sure. But I know that there was something about The Golden Girls that made me feel seen and safe. I still watch it from time to time, and it still makes me howl with laughter.

One scene in particular stands out regarding queerness, and it’s a scene from season 2, episode 5, called “Isn’t it Romantic?” where Dorothy’s friend, Jean, comes to stay and develops a crush on Rose. When Blanch finds out, her main concern is not that Jean is a lesbian but instead that Rose is the object of her affection and not her.

I’d also like to meet the dog from the novel “A Dog’s Purpose”. He is a wonderful character who is totally loyal and loving to humans, even when humans don’t deserve it (do we ever?).

The story is about a dog who gets repeatedly reincarnated at the moment of death, embodying a different breed each time. The dog’s purpose (from the title) is to find and be with the first person who ever showed him love.

He’s a beautifully written character who made me picture my own lovely dogs who are no longer with us.

The book made me an emotional wreck, and I’m still trying to prepare myself to read the two sequels.
