Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Describe Your Fashion Sense

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you would like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2023 here, and if you would like to read other people’s thoughts on today’s topic, you can do so here.

Describe Your Fashion Sense

Oh boy. Well. For most of my life (much to my Nanna’s chagrin), my fashion sense or style has been casual. I enjoy dressing for comfort.

However, When I was a child, my mum and my Nanna would always dress me and my younger brother the same. I have no idea why. We are two years apart and look nothing alike in reality, and yet people would ask my mum if we were twins because we were dressed identically. It really bugged me.

There was a time, many moons ago, when I went through a rough few years when I wore nothing but black. Black joggers and black hoodies with a black T-shirt. I never cut my hair for years – it wasn’t great. But it was easier to let it take care of itself, and I was comfortable.

These days, if I need to leave home for whatever reason, I dress a bit brighter. A few years ago, because my Nanna asked me to try to “wear some colour”, I started wearing brightly coloured hoodies, sometimes with brightly coloured Joggers, with a colourful t-shirt with an image of cartoon characters or a logo on the front. My favourite, at least for now, is a white T-shirt depicting Sharky and George from the 1990 animated series. It’s bright, colourful, and, most importantly of all, it’s comfortable.

If I’m at home, which is more often than not, you’ll find me wearing some shorts if it’s warm or joggers and T-shirt that’s at least one size too big (although I prefer two sizes bigger) if it’s cold. If I go out anywhere, I change into my ‘at home clothes’ when I return because since I spend a lot of time writing, editing or reading, I don’t want to feel restricted by clothing.

I guess my style is pretty basic and comfortable overall. I hate wearing anything too formal and restrictive for long periods, and it’s always a relief to change out of those clothes and back into my comfy clothes.

Well, that’s week 28. How are we 28 weeks into 2023 already? Time is flying by, which is both good and bad, I suppose… but I digress.

I’m interested in learning how all of you would describe your sense of style or fashion. The world is full of unique people, each with a unique sense of self and style, so the responses to today’s topic should be interesting.

Thank you, as ever, for stopping by and reading my words today!

Until next time,

George

  1. Yes, this year is passing by very fast!

My spouse wears an all-black wardrobe like you used to do. 🙂

  2. I’ve felt attracted to black during periods of deep mourning. At other times I like black and wear black one day, color the next day, without thinking about it.

For me shopping for clothes is mindful, and once that’s done I like getting dressed for the day to be mindless and not distract me from the job for which I’m dressing.

A clear trend is apparent with this week’s prompts. We no longer feel that one must suffer to be beautiful. If anything we feel that one must enjoy (one’s clothes) to look good in them.

  3. The simple answer is that I dress like a trucker. That’s no accident: my dad was a trucker, but where I part from him is that I’m more willing to dress casually for Walmart and I prefer conventional boring shirt colors to louder ones. He does humdrum plaids throughout the week but then every loud colors for church and going out.

  4. Patrick Prescott's avatar

I bought a black car, only one on the lot of the model I wanted. I usually never wore black, but all of a sudden, I’m wearing all black to match my car. Weird.

  5. Mine is very similar except for the bright colours. I hate restrictive clothing and will squirm continuously until I am able to remove it in favour of something at least one size larger. I hate hoew much of women’s clothing is uncomfortable so I don’t wear much of it- shorts or athletic pants, t-shirt, hoodies. That’s my preference especially when I’m at home! Also a fan of black for most of my young adulthood. Now I do more grey and denim and some black or navy, and I guess I do have occasional pops of colour but more muted – like mauve instead of bright purple. I don’t like to stand out! So much of your description I can relate to, but I do admire your colours- maybe one day I will edge into a brighter palette!

  6. I’m 100% down for work clothing to become t-shirts plus sweat pants or shorts. That sounds amazing.
