Someplace I’d Love to Visit Someday
Being agoraphobic with all the anxiety disorders, I never get to travel anywhere unless it’s through the pages of a book, though there are a few places I am drawn to.
New York City, USA
For some reason, I’ve always had an affinity for New York City – I have no idea why – I’m not even a city person. I much prefer small towns and villages like the one I live in. As I think about it now, I wonder if it’s because New York feels familiar. After all, it’s featured in some of my favourite TV shows and movies, like Spiderman, Sex and the City, The Marvellous Mrs Maisel and Jessica Jones; I feel like I know the place well. I don’t know why, though New York City is definitely on my ‘One Day’ List.
Venice, Italy
Since I first played Tomb Raider II on the PlayStation when I was 12, I’ve also felt a pull towards Venice in Italy. There appears to be something so magical and mysterious about the place. I’ve been fascinated by it ever since. In the game, Lara Croft visits Venice and traverses the city’s canals, exploring caves and caverns beneath them. I know those caves and caverns aren’t real, but still, it sparked something in me.
The city looks picturesque. From the images I’ve seen, it could be a place in a storybook.
Mars, Fourth Rock from the Sun
Finally, there is another place I’d love to visit someday, although it’s exceedingly doubtful I will ever get the chance, and that place is Mars. Yes, the planet.
I have always been fascinated by Mars. It has all the makings of a habitable planet, yet something happened billions of years ago that caused its atmosphere to be stripped away, causing its oceans to evaporate, leaving the world a dry, arid and dusty wasteland.
I would love to be able to visit Mars. Especially in the far-off future when, conceivably, humanity will be forced to spread out to protect our species from an existential catastrophe and colonise other worlds. It would be interesting to see how future humans will transform the currently inhospitable Red Planet into a second home for our species, where we can flourish.
Well, that’s about it for this one. Post 22 – yikes!
I’m looking forward to reading about some places you’d all love to visit someday!
As always, thanks for reading my words!
Until next time,
George

New York would be nice. Take in a Broadway play.

I’m glad I went to New York when I did. The city’s not my cup of cappuccino, but it was nice to be able to help a friend in need while satisfying my curiosity about the place.
There’s a part of me that still wants to go to London, though.

Not an agoraphobic but I do have anxiety so I can understand why travel would be an issue. However, surprisingly, sometimes the excitement anxiety about where I am going is able to combat the other anxiety…or at least I like to think it does.
