Hi everyone! I hope you’re well. Today is week three of the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. You can read what others are saying about today’s topic here.
Today’s topic is:
New Things I’ve tried Recently
Honestly, I am not a person who enjoys trying new things. I live in my comfort zone, and I love it here. It’s called a comfort zone for a reason, after all. That being said, I have been encouraged to try a few new things this year.
The first, and perhaps the most important new thing I’m doing – or doing again – is trying to incorporate more food into my diet. As I’ve said in a previous post, I’ve struggled with disordered eating for a few years now, and this year, I’m determined to make strides in my recovery. One of the steps in the process is incorporating more and new foods into my diet. Because I was advised to do so, I’ve started with a banana. It may seem like a small and simple step – and to some, it is – but to me, it’s enormous. So far, it’s going well. The thought of incorporating anything new feels like an insurmountable task, though that’s the tricky thing with eating disorders. However, I have now added a banana to my diet, though I must say, I’m not living for the taste of bananas. It’s such a mild yet mushy and unpleasant experience.
The next thing I have tried is taking time for myself. Again this is something else that may seem simple to do, but when you’ve built up a habit of using distraction techniques such as working and keeping busy, it’s hard to slow down suddenly and take time out, but It is necessary. I’m learning that I need to have some quiet time to relax and try and destress. I’m trying. It’s going all right, though I know, I could try a bit harder.
So, to try and trick myself into relaxing, I have decided to write some reviews of my favourite books and books I happen to be reading. This is another new thing I’m trying.
If I tell myself I have to sit and read this book, I’ll be taking time out to relax while creating some new content for my website at the same time. Up to now, it’s working out. I am reading more, which is one of my goals for this year, and I’m managing to nod off to sleep a little easier at night too. By the time I’ve read a chapter, my eyes are pretty heavy, so I’m not lying there coming up with a fantastic comeback to an insult someone might have thrown at me twenty years ago.
So, that’s post three. Only the rest of the year to go… I’m sure I’ll manage to hang in there…
As always, thank you for taking the time to read my words. I really do appreciate it!
Until next time,
George

Good for you, George!
I like to read right before bed, too.

I’ve found it to be really helpful, though when I was younger, I think my mind was too overactive to concentrate.

I’m a night reader as well…but I do mine via audiobooks. Helps my mind relax. You can find out what I’ve done new here

Yeah, Judy, I like an audiobook now and then, too. Sometimes, it’s nice to just listen.

I do hope you post a review on Amazon for the book too. I’ve found blogging or post a review helps me remember the book longer.

I’m glad you’re reading more. There are so many benefits to reading. And authors always appreciate reviews, so that’s a win-win. 🙂
I love trying new foods, but two of my sons are extremely picky eaters. I was always told they’d grow out of it. My older son is 15 now and I think it’s just gotten worse. He’s gotten better at trying new foods, but he still doesn’t like much. Makes it difficult to plan meals.

Tricia, we have one of those! Our nephew, who lives with us, will only eat chicken nuggets or scrambled eggs! We were also told he’d outgrow it, however, we’re still waiting and he’s just turned 18!

You’re right that it’s important to take time out to relax. I have trouble remembering that sometimes, too.

Hi George! I am so into your blog post tonight! I do not rest well. I think I need to work all day or cook or do laundry. I used to play the Sims 4 like crazy! I had not played in almost a year! One of my friend’s guests writes on my blog about Sims. I actually PLAYED the game the other night, BUT I said it was for work. I am going to do a video. I still played, and it was fun! I have a hard time setting boundaries with myself! (I said that on purpose! Because of my post) Seriously, I understand trying new foods also. I am currently trying to reduce meat in my diet. I tried some chickpeas last night. I was worried about it, but I am so glad I did that because I did like them.

I used toblove the sims. I’ve lost many an hour (and night) to that game, haha. And chickpeas are lovely and apparently very good for you, so I’m glad you gave them a go!

Good job taking steps to work on your eating habits. I actually can’t eat bananas, they make me sick. It frustrates me, though, because they’re such neat little fruits. Good luck as you move forward. I’m honestly interested in seeing what’s next 🙂

Thanks, Marianne! I know bananas are really good for you, but there’s just something about them. I just can’t get on board with. I might learn to like them, haha 🤣

Bananas might just be a texture thing for you — there are a number of foods that I basically can’t eat, not because I dislike the flavor but because the texture just… ugh. Good on you for trying to get into the habit anyway, though.

Thank you, Michael! You might be right about the texture thing. Blech. 🤣

Like, I’m generally okay with bananas, but I usually can’t eat mushrooms.

Writing reviews of books is something I always forget to do, so I need to do that this year.
