Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate, you can find the topics for 2026 here. If you’d like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can find them here.

A Profession from a Book/Movie/TV Show I’d Like to Try

There are so many.

Being a journalist in Gotham City seems very lucrative. There’s always a story. There always seem to be crime bosses and psychopaths escaping from Arkham Asylum—you’d never be short on material to write about. Not to mention The Joker, who could probably keep Gotham’s newspapers in print single-handedly.

Heck, for that matter, being a crime-fighting superhero seems like a nice way to live. Well, if you’re Bruce Wayne with billions of dollars. I guess the others don’t get paid. I can’t imagine Superman or Wonder Woman sending an invoice for their time and service.

I’ve always wanted to be a scientist who gets to go on the away missions on Star Trek (not a Redshirt!). The scientists seem to have all the fun, making discoveries and inventing things. It seems like it’d be a great life.

A paranormal investigator like those in Hell House or The Haunting of Hill House. Although I don’t believe in the paranormal, I do have a strange fascination with the investigation side of things. Odd things have been picked up on voice recorders and even video cameras that appear unexplainable. I don’t ever think ‘paranormal’, but I do think maybe it’s‘something’.

How can we be on week 40?! What will you all say, I wonder?

As ever, thanks for stopping by. It means the world!

Until next time,

George

  1. I could totally see a “Batman” series but we’re experiencing life through a journalist’s eyes!

  2. You’ve raised an interesting question for me: apart from Batman, how can super heroes probably make a comfortable living? They must all have side jobs 😅

  3. These are such cool professions, George. I might be scared to report on crimes in Gotham City, but it would be neat just the same. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Superman and I think Wonder Woman had day jobs just like normal people. I’m not sure about Spiderman.

One summer we spent a week with some relatives and my sympathetic college-aged cousin let me spend most of the time studying his comic book collection. It’s not generally known that Superman had a whole family back on Krypton who came to Earth and found crimes to fight. (Not a wife, of course–if he’d had a wife he couldn’t have loved Lois Lane in a virtuous way–but siblings and cousins. The younger generation went to school and learned, among other things, that there were different forms of kryptonite that affected their powers in different ways.) It’s canon, though; ask anyone whose collection goes back through the 1960s. And it was obligatory that they had normal-human cover-up identities and jobs–nothing heroic about loafing around a mansion like that rich guy outside Gotham…
