Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Reasons I’ve stopped reading or watching a series

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you would like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2026 here. If you would like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can do that here.

Reasons I’ve Stopped Reading or Watching a Series

The Magicians Book series by Lev Grossman
I loved the first book. I loved the characters, the world-building, and the way the story pulled me in, but the second book didn’t have the same effect. There’s also quite a violent event in the second book that I found rather disturbing. The book stayed with me, but at the same time, I didn’t feel as compelled to read the final book as I was to read this one.

The Walking Dead TV Series
The Walking Dead was such a great series when it premiered. I hadn’t seen anything like it, and I waited for each episode with bated breath. However, after around the third season, I began to find it a struggle to keep up. During COVID, I did make it to midway through season ten after not watching for a few years, but again, I stopped watching and haven’t gone back. It was such a struggle to be invested in the characters by that point. I think this was a case of a great show going on for too long.

Thank you, as ever, for spending some of your time with me today. It means the world.

Until next time,

George

  1. I read the first Magicans book and found it interesting, but it wasn’t enough to make me think about the sequel.

  3. Though I have heard of The Walking Dead, I’ve never watched it. I tend not to be drawn toward things like that. As far as disturbing violence in books, that would turn me off as well. Thanks for sharing, George.

  4. For me it was the Outlander series. I just could not take it anymore. It was one disaster after another and an endless misery. And one day I was like “No. We have all suffered enough”.
