Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to join in the challenge, you can find the topics for 2026 here. If you would like to see what others have said on this week’s topic, you can find them here.
Something I Wish I Knew More About
Gosh… everything. All the things. I’d like to know everything anyone who ever lived knew. To experience everything there is to experience. But of course, that’s impossible.
I do like to learn, though. When I was in school, I was that annoying kid who asked for extra homework or went overboard in researching something that caught my interest. I’d see my teachers’ faces drop when everyone else handed in their single-sided A4, and I gave them a bulging manila folder.
There are loads of things I wish I knew more about. I wish I knew more about German folklore. My husband, who spent ten years of his childhood living in Germany, has spoken a little about various things he’s heard, and I thought it was interesting. Krampus, for instance, is a figure I find fascinating.
I’d love to learn more about Egyptian history and about the history of ancient Britons.
I’d love to learn more languages. I’m learning German through Duolingo, and it’s okay… I’m confident I could say something in German and have it be understood by a native speaker (they’d probably laugh at my attempt at butchering their language)—but I’m not confident at all that I’d understand a native speaker.
I’d love to know more about legends such as King Arthur and Robin Hood. Those stories used to grip me as a child.
I would also very much like to learn how it came to be that religion evolved in so many diverse ways. I understand that ancient humans would have seen the sun and the moon and thought they were eyes, thus the idea of God was born, but how did that grow into people holding such deep faith within themselves?
I asked my nanna many times how she knew there was a god, and she would merely tell me she trusted he was there. I envied that blind faith. But how does it get there?
Anyhoo… that’s about enough of my rambling for one day, I think!
I’m looking forward to reading what everyone else has to say!
Until next time,
George
