Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: How I Handle Bad Days

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. How I Handle Bad Days

I’ve struggled a lot over my life with poor mental health, especially these past few years. Those of you who read my posts regularly will know I’m still in the grasp of anorexia (I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis as a complication), which causes some of my days to be particularly bad. The good news is that the bad days don’t all come at once—there are sometimes long stretches where everything seems to be going well, and then, as often happens with these things, there are dips.

On those days when I have dips, distraction is key. I have a brain that enjoys fixating on things—mostly negative things—so to escape my self-doubt and self-reprimanding, I need something to take me out of myself—and, recently, horror films have been the thing to do that.

On bad days, I sit with a blanket and a nice big mug of black coffee, and I watch a bunch of people pretending to be scared out of their wits on the TV.

Now, the quality of horror films varies dramatically—but for the most part, if the action is compelling enough and I’m invested, I’m able to escape my brain for a while.

My husband and I recently rewatched the ‘Final Destination’ movies, which are an enjoyable camp gorefest. We both agreed the first film was far superior to the others, with the latest ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ coming in second.

I’d love to be able to read a book or write on those bad days, but unfortunately, I can’t get my brain to engage. I end up rereading the same paragraph over and over or staring at a blank white page.

Well, that’s post 39 done! I’m intrigued to learn about how you all handle bad days!

Thank you, as always, for stopping by to read my post. It really does mean a lot.

Until next time,

George

  1. I think horror movies are pretty hard to get right. Either that, or I don’t scare easily! I’ve not watched the final destination movies for such a long time. I really want to rewatch the Saw movies in order. They were classics back in the day! I think movies are a great way to deal with bad days.

  2. I think it’s so interesting that you find horror soothing!

My mom was recently diagnosed with an early stage of osteoporosis. You’re in my thoughts as you deal with that condition.
