Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Favourite Things to do in the Winter

Hi everyone! I hope you’re well. It’s Wednesday, and it’s time for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to take part, you can find the list of topics for 2025 here. You can read what others are saying about today’s topic here.

Favourite Things to Do in the Winter

Winter is one of my favourite times of the year (along with autumn), and my favourite thing to do during the season is to sit on my sofa, wrapped in a warm blanket next to a radiator, reading a book.

I also enjoy jigsaw puzzles; my mind is often full and frazzled, and sitting down in a cosy room and thinking only about the puzzle pieces in front of me helps me to calm my rampant anxiety.

Writing is also a good winter activity for me. I always enjoy writing, though more so in the winter; perhaps it’s because I feel happier in the winter months, knowing that the pressure to have a good and productive year is minimal.

No matter how hard I try, I always start the year anxious that I won’t make good use of my time, query enough agents or work hard enough. At the end of the year, it hardly matters, and with my foot off the accelerator, I can enjoy my time more.

When I was younger, my siblings and I would be out in the snow, building snowmen and malformed igloos, but it hardly ever seems to snow in the north of England nowadays. And if it does snow, there’s never enough to do anything with. One day, we might see our last snowfall and not even know it.

Well, wasn’t that a cheery note to end on? It’s the new year, George! Think positively!

So, that’s post three. I’m looking forward to reading about some of your favourite things to do in wintertime.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this post. I really do appreciate it!

Until next time,

George

  2. My kids love puzzles, but I’m not very good at them. So, I distract the cats while the kids put the puzzles together. Hahaha.

  3. In Alabama the best time to retreat inside with a good book is the summer, because it’s so brutally hot!

  4. I agree with you 100%. There’s something about the season that makes it feel okay to slow down a bit, be cosy and engage in things that aren’t super energetic or productive. I mean there’s the holidays, and for those of us with kids and family it’s always a frenzy, but around that it’s nice to have a bit of time where you can stay inside in your pyjamas much more often!

    • Staying inside in my pyjamas is my favourite pastime. 🤣 On Christmas Day, I got all dressy to take some pictures with the family, then quickly put my Grinch PJs back on and had my Christmas dinner.

  5. Jigsaw puzzles are fun on cold days, and of course, how can a reviewer get through a day without some reading?! Not sure why I wrote such a tourism-oriented post, but I did, this week.
