Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: My Thoughts on the Mystery Genre

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. My Thoughts on the Mystery Genre

As I’ve said a few times before, I never used to be fond of mystery, but I have been trying to read more. One of the recent books I read is There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. It’s more of a slasher movie in novel format, but there are a few elements of mystery at play throughout.

I think I am learning to enjoy the chaos of a mystery. By that, I mean the ‘not knowing what will happen next’; I need predictability in real life to feel like I am functioning at my best and help stave off bad habits, but it’s been lovely to take a break from that with fiction.

I also recently watched the newer Poirot films starring Kenneth Branagh. I really enjoyed them. Before watching the first film, ‘Murder on The Orient Express’, I was groaning about how bored I would be – I loved the book, but they don’t always translate well to screen. However, I wasn’t bored at all. I was so engrossed in the film that the time seemed to whiz by. I liked the sequel, ‘Death on The Nile’, too, but my favourite has been the latest film in the series, ‘A Haunting in Venice’.

Anyway, that’s me. I can’t believe this was post 46! It will be interesting to see what you all have written for this week’s post, and, as ever, I’m looking forward to reading them.

As always,  thank you for stopping by to read my words.

Until next time,

George

  2. I tend to like them. Which dramatization of Murder on the Orient Express did you see? I saw the newish one a few years back but can’t remember if it delivered or not.

  3. I am interested in the film series – I haven’t watched any of them! I used to love the tv shows based on Miss Marple, and I did watch some of Poirot even though I didn’t enjoy him quite as much. Sounds like they’re worth a watch! Thanks for sharing!

  4. I like Dame Agatha too. Dorothy Sayers, even more.

I also liked the Kenneth Branagh films, although I was less keen on “Death on the Nile”. I didn’t find Gal Gadot worked in the part.
