Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Series I Wish had Just one More Book in Them

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for my next post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. You can check out the list of topics for 2024 here if you’d like to take part, and you can read what others have written on today’s topic here.

Series I Wish had Just one More Book in Them

While reading has always been one of my favourite things to do, I must admit, I have never really been a fan of book series. I love collections like Roald Dahl’s books, the Asterix comics and Doctor Who novels. However, a series of books where the stories continue into each book always felt like too big of a reading commitment.

That being said, I have read a few series, such as the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, but both felt like full, complete stories to me. One of the only other book series I’ve read that I could have read more of is the Bridget Jones series by Helen Fielding.

I read Bridget Jones’ Diary many years ago, long after I watched the movie adaptation, and I was hooked. I practically inhaled the sequels. Each is really a self-contained book telling the story of a particular time in the life of the titular character, and, at the end of each, I have always been left feeling as though I could have read more. The final instalment, Bridget Jones’s Baby, left me with the same feeling. I think it’s because, having read about all of the significant moments in Bridget’s life, her story feels unfinished since having a child doesn’t mean her life is over. I feel like there’s still so much story to tell.

Anyhoo, I’m looking forward to reading all your thoughts on which book series weren’t long enough.

Thank you, as ever, for stopping by to read today’s post. It really does mean a lot.

Until next time,

George

  1. I didn’t realize that Bridget Jones had so many books in it. I think I only ever read the first one!

  2. I’ve only read the first Bridget Jones novel, but I loved it so much. Her little notations about how many cigarettes she’d had or her weight always made me laugh.

  3. The thought of being Bridget Jones’s child explains why that series cut off, but…
