Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: My favourite YouTube Video

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. It’s Wednesday, and time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you want to take part in the challenge yourself, you can find the topics for 2023 here, and if you would like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can find them here.

My favourite YouTube Video

I spend lots of time on YouTube both for research and fun. It is a fantastic source of information and inspiration, and I spend a lot of time trawling the channels for all sorts of things. My favourite video that I ever came across, however, appeared before my eyes in 2015, and that video was:

Power/Rangers, and if you’d like to watch it, you can find it here.

Power/Rangers is a fan-made short film which acts as a gritty, dark and mature re-imagining of one of my favourite childhood TV shows, “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers”, which aired from 1993 to 1996.

Directed and co-written by Joseph Kahn, James Van Der Beek and Dutch Southern and produced by Adi Shankar and Jil Hardin, the film takes place in a dystopian future and involves a violent storyline that explores the consequences of the Rangers’ actions and the toll acting as “Zordon’s soldiers” takes on their lives.

James Van Der Beek stars as Rocky, a former Red Ranger, who is now working with the Machine Empire and is interrogating the restrained former Pink Ranger, Kimberly Hart (played perfectly by Katee Sackhoff), about the whereabouts of the former Green Ranger Tommy Oliver. Throughout the interrogation, Rocky recounts the details of the other Rangers’ fates.

The short, which was not officially sanctioned by Saban, who owned the franchise at the time, garnered a huge following online, quickly going viral and even catching the attention of Saban, who, after initially having had the film pulled down, had a change of heart and decided to have it put back online.

It’s a brilliant idea, and according to Wikipedia (y’know, the font of all factually correct truth and knowledge?), Adi Shankar has ideas for a possible television follow-up. I highly recommend it, and It’s only 14 minutes long. So, if you’re a fan of The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, treat yourself!

As always, thanks so much for reading my words. I’m looking forward to reading about all of your favourite YouTube videos.

Until next time,

George
