Have You Ever Attended Your High School Reunion? Why?

My high school has never held a reunion, which is good because if it did, I certainly wouldn’t go. I was bullied so terribly at school that it has affected my whole life. It’s left me with lifelong mental health issues that I never could have predicted. I had plans when I was a kid. I was going to grow up, travel, and do all kinds of things. But all I’ve done really is attend one form of psychological treatment or another ever since I left.

So, no. I would never go back to that place and mix with the majority of those people. I’m still in contact with the friends I made there, occasionally, so I don’t need to attend a “party” to catch up.

I’m in a much more stable place in life now than I’ve ever been, so I wouldn’t want to undo any of the decades-long work I’ve done to get here.

The awful thing is that kids who bully don’t know that the way they treat others will have lasting effects.

They don’t know that people like me lie awake at night at almost 40 years old, replaying every nasty comment and every punch and kick over and over until I fall asleep. If they did, then perhaps they wouldn’t be so cruel.

Well… wasn’t that a cheery post?! Would any of you attend a high-school reunion?
