Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Characters I Never Want to Meet

2 Apr 2025 9:00 am

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the topics for 2025 here, and if you’d like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can find them here.

Characters I Never Want to Meet

This list could go on forever, but I’ll try to restrain myself and mention just a few.

The Xenomorph
I’d hate to meet any member of this alien species. While they make the Alien film series exciting and scary, I’m sure they’d make real life entirely horrific.

Kane
I would hate to meet or even see Kane from the film Poltergeist II. He is one of the most terrifying characters I’ve ever seen in a film. I remember the first time I saw Poltergeist II (I was about 11). I couldn’t sleep all night because every time the stairs or the floor along the landing of our house creaked, I’d freak out.

The Joker
Can you imagine living in Gotham City? It doesn’t bear thinking about. What a place! Crime in every alley, maniacs with secret (or not-so-secret) lairs all over—no, thank you. The main villain of Gotham (in my opinion) is the Joker, especially the version of the Joker from the comic books and graphic novels. He is a seriously sinister individual indeed.

Krampus
Krampus is the antithesis of Santa Claus and punishes the kids who’ve been badly behaved. He’s a goatlike creature who steals kids from their beds, and although he is a character from German Christmas folklore, he is anything but Christmassy.

Well, this has been post number 14! (How?!) I’m intrigued to read about the characters you’d never like to meet.

As ever, thanks for stopping by and spending time with me today!

Until next time,

George

  1. I liked watching the Alien series but they’re definitely not a species to ever meet in person!

  3. All great choices, George. Not sure I ended up watching the second Poltergeist movie. The Joker, especially as played by the late Heath Ledger, was such a different type of villain for Batman. The rest were mostly comical, but the Joker was disturbed and struggled with mental health issues. Even the name Krampus spooks me out. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Good choices or maybe I should say bad choices. Bad in the sense I’d never want to meet them.

  5. You have found my area of avoidance in this post! I don’t tend to watch horror movies, or much sci-fi. I’ve seen the Alien movies, at least one or two, mostly because I was dating someone who felt it was necessary at the time. I have promptly managed to forget all the details about them, including the word “xenomorph.” But I agree, they didn’t seem to be particularly genial fellows.

I’ve never watched Poltergeist the first, let alone the sequel! But I’ve had similar experiences whenever I’ve been silly enough to venture a toe into the horror realm. I watched The Grudge once and couldn’t sleep for days. I still have shivers if I think about it. No, I do not have the constitution for creepy things!

The Joker is a great one. I never read the comics, but I did see The Dark Knight. I feel like the Batman movies from the 90s-ish era were more bright and absurdist and fun, whereas in the early 2000s they started to get properly dark. It doesn’t help that The Joker was Ledger’s character… now when I see bits of it it just feels like it’s a physical representation of some kind of internal angst, and it makes me feel really sad. He was far too young, and I hate how brutal fame and Hollywood seem to be on anyone sensitive or troubled. So that’s definitely one I feel! And Krampus… no thank you. I am not one for holidays or anniversaries or anything, but I DO love Christmas, and I love it because it’s twinkle lights and warmth and coziness and delicious baking smells. I do not need a flip side, thank you very much! Leave my Christmas alone, Krampus!

As always, I’ve got thoughts. Thanks for giving me a place to share them! 🙂

    1. Haha! I agree! No thanks, Krampus! I love Christmas for the same reasons, and you’re very welcome, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate them!

  6. Okay, Krampus and the Joker are positively *inspired* choices for this. Though I have to say that after watching Red One back around Christmas, it does look like Krampus throws one heck of a party. My list went to horror movies too, but they’re a different selection from yours; I don’t have very clear memories of Poltergeist 2, though I know I’ve seen it and I remember the original fairly well.

  7. Okay, this list is pure nightmare fuel in the best way.

The Joker is such a great pick. He’s not just evil, he’s calculated chaos, and you never really know what he’s going to do next. I’d last about three minutes in Gotham, max.

I love how wide-ranging your list is—from horror to holiday horror to comic book horror. Creepy but compelling! 😅

    1. Thanks, Kitty! Yeah, I’d probably try and hide in a corner somewhere if I were to ever visit Gotham… but then, that’s generally where the bad guys lurk 😬
