Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Gifts for People Who are Hard to Shop For

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2023 here. If you’re interested in reading other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can do so here.

Gifts for People Who are Hard to Shop For

I love giving gifts and have this problem with a few people every single year.

The children in the family are the easiest to please. We always give our younger nephew books, colouring supplies and maybe a DVD or a T-shirt. He’s into lots of stuff (mostly Pokemon and Power Rangers), so he’s easy to shop for.

My eldest nephew (the one who lives with us) is very hard to shop for. He loves Yugioh, but there are only so many Yugioh cards you can buy for a person. He likes movies about Godzilla and King Kong but doesn’t like to own DVDs and Blu-rays, preferring to watch his content on a streamer.

He loves hoodies, so we usually get him a couple of those as well. But the older he gets, the harder it is to buy gifts for him. When he was younger, he was more like our younger nephew; he liked all kinds of things, and you couldn’t go wrong no matter what you bought.

Generally speaking, I think you can’t go wrong with chocolate. If I am ever at a complete loss, I go towards a gift of chocolate or a gift card for somewhere I know the person likes to shop. That way, they can purchase something they will really like.

My husband and I are relatively easy to buy gifts for. I’m not a good gift receiver, though; I’m not never sure what to do when someone gives you a present. I know you’re supposed to say thank you – but I always feel the need to make sure the gift giver believes I love the gift so much that I tend to go over the top, then spend ages chastising myself in my head for not just accepting it with thanks and moving on.

Like our younger nephew, my husband is not especially difficult to buy gifts for. He loves sports, video games, clothes, graphic novels, manga… the list is endless, so there are always so many options.

There are people such as my sister, on the other hand, who like to receive the same gift from us every Christmas: the latest season of her favourite TV show on DVD and her favourite body spray and shower gel gift set. Easy peasy – it’s become its own little tradition. I’ve got her a little surprise this year, though. So Jade, if you’re reading this, you must’ve been extra lovely to me this year… either that or Santa made a mistake while compiling his list…

Well, that’s me! Post 50!? And I thought I’d struggle in the first few weeks with the extra post per week. But here we are!

I’m interested to read about your opinions on gifts for hard-to-shop people. I’m sure there’ll be some great ideas!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Until next time,

George

  1. I like it when people are easy to buy for…. sometimes I’ll see something that just screams out someone’s name. I also have those people, though, that I don’t know what to get for.

  3. It helps that people know I can’t afford to buy things any more. (Years ago I lived near several thrift shops in nice neighborhoods, and some of these people used to send me lists.) If I give people things, these days, they’re poems!

Everyone is different, but it seems you give it your best.
