Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Three Fun Facts About Myself

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2023 here. If you’d like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can do so here.

Three Fun Facts About Myself

FACT 1

I am an animal lover. I love all animals, even the animals I find creepy, like spiders. I can’t bear the thought of an animal in pain or suffering; sometimes, if I think too hard about it, I wind up lying awake at night worrying that there’s a lonely dog out in the rain somewhere. I never kill flies, spiders or ants; I always capture them in our dedicated “spider catcher” (a simple Tupperware container we keep aside for such jobs as catching insects and bugs and releasing them outside). A few years ago, we had a mouse, and rather than calling in the pest controller, who would most likely dispose of them inhumanely, we stayed up until 4 am until we managed to catch it. I then read you should take the mouse at least a mile away from your home, lest it follows you back (mice may rule the world one day, and if they really are that smart, they deserve to!) We walked for ages carrying the poor terrified thing in an old shoe box, releasing it where the internet told us to (because obviously, the internet is always right). I choose to believe it’s still living its best life down in the woods near the stream by our flat.

We, humans, evolved to believe this planet is ‘ours’ when in fact, we are just the latest additions to Mother Nature’s menagerie.

FACT 2

I am a vegetarian, though not for the above reason. I adore animals, but I also know that humans would not be where they are today without eating meat. So while I don’t eat meat, I wouldn’t begrudge others a cheeseburger or a ham sandwich. However, I do believe we should (as a species) try to figure out a solution to agricultural overproduction. There are way more people than ever, which means way more livestock is needed to feed them and more land to feed and house the livestock, which in turn leaves a whopping carbon footprint… anyway – slight digression- but I suppose that won’t surprise any of you.

FACT 3

I absolutely love The Flintstones. In fact, I love most Hanna Barbera cartoons, although something about The Flintstones grabbed me as a child and still hasn’t let go.

I remember watching the show with my dad when I was small enough to curl-up beside him on his armchair. I can remember him telling me facts about it, like how originally the show was to be called The Flagstones. And though I truely love every episode, including the specials, my favourite has to be The Flitstones meet Rockula and Frankenstone, in which The Flitstones and the Rubbles win a trip to Rocksylvania to stay in the fabled Count Rockula’s castle. Chaos and hilarity ensue when it turns out Count Rockula is real, and he has mistaken Wilma for his bride.

Well, that’s me for post 34. I’m eager to read all your posts and learn more about you. This week’s topic will undoubtedly turn up some wonderfully intriguing things about all of you.

Thank you, as always, for reading my post and hanging around here for a bit – it means a whole lot!

Until next time,

George

  1. It’s cool that you’re vegetarian! I do eat meat sometimes, but I’ve been trying to cut back on it and get it from as ethical sources as I can afford to.

There are a ton of delicious vegan and vegetarian recipes out there. I’ve really learned to love beans. They’re cheap and a good source of iron and protein in many cases, too.

  2. I can sympathize with being an animal lover to an extent (I’m the designated cricket & lizard catcher at the library), but there are certain ones like wasps that I will eliminate with extreme prejudice.

    • Wasps are annoying. And I’m certain that I am, too, as far as getting rid of them is concerned. 🤣 I live with people who are like you and will gladly eliminate them, and I often find myself running around with some sort of box or carton to catch and rescue them before they’re squished, much to my family’s bewilderment.

    • There’s something so comforting about the Flintstones, too. It’s the same feeling I get with shows like Becker, Cheers and Frasier. I think it just takes me back to simpler, easier times when my parents did all the worrying about life.

  4. I did enjoy the Flinstones cartoon back in the day. There was also a very interesting Flintstones comic book some while back.
