A Dance with Death

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. I’m sharing another poem with you today. I hope you enjoy it!

A Dance with Death

There was a time so long ago,
That I took Death’s proffered hand,
And we danced to the sound the ocean made,
As our footprints pressed the sand.

He held me to him, hip to hip,
And he whispered as we moved,
“You asked to come beyond the veil,
And your travel is approved.”

We tangoed along the shoreline —
I had never felt such peace.
I was enraptured by the balmy night,
My spirit was so at ease.

And suddenly, a horse appeared,
Majestic and all in black.
Death patted her as he took the reins,
And hauled me onto her back.

But as the horse began to trot,
In and out the gentle foam,
I realised what I’d left behind,
And I wanted to go home.

And death smiled; he understood me,
He knew that I wasn’t done.
He gently bade the horse to stop,
Just as moon gave way to sun.

“Perhaps we’ll have another dance,”
He said as he bowed his head,
“But not just now, not tonight,
Go on home and back to bed.”

With that, he smiled with burning eyes,
And the horse galloped away,
And suddenly, my eyes were blinking
In the cold, harsh light of day.

Thank you, as always, for stopping by to read my words. I really appreciate it.

Until next time,

George
