Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well. It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the next post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by long and short reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, then you can find the list of topics for 2026 here. Or, if you’re interested, you can read what others thought about this week’s topic here.
The First TV Show I Remember Watching
The very first thing that came to mind when I read this week’s prompt was a cartoon that aired in the early ’90s called Sharky and George. It was about a shark named Sharky (naturally) and a fish named George. The two are detectives or ‘crime busters of the sea’. The memory is vivid. The show was bright and colourful, and when I watched an episode on YouTube recently, I still found it incredibly compelling.
The second TV show that came to mind is Doctor Who. It’s a very famous British sci-fi series about an alien who travels in a time and space machine that appears as an old 1960s British police box. I remember sitting next to my dad in his chair, watching as the Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison, faced a firing squad in the serial The Caves of Androzani. I remember feeling scared… but in a good way. That memory has stayed vividly in my mind for decades.
Anyway, post 2! Thanks for reading. I wonder what all of you will answer.
Until next time,
George

I never heard of that cartoon! Of course, I didn’t watch much TV as a kid. The first show I remember was either Rescue 911 or Full House.

I loved Dr Who once we were finally able to watch it here in the states. As a kid, my favorite cartoon was Mighty Mouse.

I missed “Sharky and George” (and other 1990s cartoons that were better known in the US) due to not having a child to watch them with. I heard a lot about Dr Who but never saw it on TV as a kid–think I’ve seen a few reruns on Youtube, though.

I am surprised I don’t recall “Sharky and George,” because my son was born in the late 80s. I’ve never watched “Doctor Who,” but I’ve heard of it. Thanks for sharing your memories, George.

Thanks, Cheryl! I get the impression that Sharkey and George wasn’t a huge hit because not many remember it 😊 Doctor who, however is everywhere. It’s still going now.

I remember watching Doctor Who before it became well known in the US. My dad was a fan of the show when he was younger, that how I know about it.
