Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Celebrity I’d Like to Meet

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. It’s Wednesday, and it’s time for the second post in this year’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2024 here. Or, if you’re interested, you can read what others thought about this week’s topic here.

A Celebrity I’d Like to Meet

I’ve never been one who has had a desire to meet famous people because they’re just people at the end of the day and really no different from anyone else. However, apropos of today’s post, I have had a good root around in my brain for a couple of people I wouldn’t mind having a cuppa and a chat with.

Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry is one of the UK’s most intelligent comedians and actors. While he doesn’t claim to know everything there is to know about everything, he certainly knows a lot about many things. I love listening to him talk in interviews and podcasts – and above all else, he’s funny!

Caroline Aherne
Unfortunately, Ms Aherne passed away in 2016. However, she would have undoubtedly been on my list of celebrities I’d like to meet. I first stumbled upon this hilariously talented actor and writer whilst watching The Royle Family, which she created and starred in. Although I hadn’t realised it, I had actually seen her before on TV whilst staying over at my nanna’s house when I was small in the title role of the Mrs Merton Show (a chat show where Aherne interviews celebrities, whilst in the guise of a woman in her late 60s). As an adult, I have seen every episode of both series and much more of her work besides. I find her humour to be intelligent, witty and acerbic. I’d have loved to sit and chat with her, especially about some of those interviews on the Mrs Merton Show.

Russell T Davies
For me, Russell is one of TV’s greatest writers. Not only does he currently run Doctor Who (for the second time since its revival in 2005), one of my favourite TV shows, but he’s also written some of the best dramas in recent years, including Years and Years and It’s a Sin. I think he’s got a fantastic way of holding a mirror up to the world and writing about real people going through real issues as characters in his work.

Anyway, that’s it for my second Wednesday post of the year. Thanks for reading.

Until next time,

George

  3. Oh man, I love Stephen Fry! His narration of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is so good! Last year, I found A Bit of Fry and Laurie on a streaming service and I think I alarmed my kids with how loudly I was laughing.
