Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Reasons I Love Being A Blogger/Reader

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you would like to participate in the challenge, you can find the topics for 2023 here, and if you would like to see what others have said about this week’s topic, you can do so here.

Reasons I Love Being A Blogger/Reader

The reasons I love being a blogger and a reader are many, so I’ll only speak about just a few, or we’d be here all day, and as much as I love a ramble, nobody wants that…

Reasons I Love Being a Blogger
I have always loved to write. When I was little, I loved to write stories with my granddad, and as I grew, my love for it continued to grow with me. I would write on and off as I grew up and always enjoyed it. I often even found it cathartic.

Later, when I began to take writing seriously, I took part in many writing courses, trying to absorb as much knowledge as I could. That thirst for knowledge is still there, and I often turn to the internet for answers. What I discovered, though, is that the answers never seemed to be all in one place; they were scattered across various web pages. This is where my passion for blogging began.

I decided to create a place where a writer, new or otherwise, could find answers, tips and advice for all their writing needs. Since then, I’ve also used it as a spot to share my work and take part in things such as this challenge!

Reasons I Love Being a Reader
Books and stories have always been a vital part of my life; they have always been my escapism in tough times, allowing me to get out of my head and into another world for a little while. In reading books, we can live vicariously through their characters and see places we might never see otherwise.

Reading is also an essential part of my sleep ritual, and I struggle to fall asleep if I’ve not at least read a page (staying asleep is a whole other matter).

I also learn a lot from reading; sometimes, I’ll stumble upon something interesting, which usually leads to falling down a research rabbit hole. For instance, while I was reading The Handmaid’s Tale, I watched an interview with the author, Margaret Atwood (an interview I’d not have stopped to watch if not for reading the book) in which she discussed the fact that, although the book may seem a bit far-fetched (it doesn’t), all of the awful things in it have happened at some point in the world. This led to hours of reading about civil rights and how humans seem to strongly dislike other humans who aren’t exactly like them… but I digress.

I enjoy reading for fun, but I also see it as something I need to do to make sure I have good(ish) mental health. There’s nothing quite like a good book, a comfy chair and an imagination to get you away from things for a while.

Well, that’s me for post 24! – And to think, in January, I was anxious that I’d not have time to fit more writing into my busy days.

I’m looking forward to discovering what all of your thoughts on blogging and reading are.

But for now, as always, thank you for stopping by and spending some time with me today.

Until next time,

George

  1. We have a lot in common, George. I’m glad you decided to participate in this blog hop. 🙂

Have you read the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale yet? If not, I recommend it. It gives some wonderful closure to the questions the first book never answered.

So much defines us as bloggers and reader that’s what we have in common.

  3. I always enjoy reading your posts, I should really get better about reading more of your posts, I just get wrapped up in life and don’t – not just you but a lot of people I follow.

One thing I learned on writing was that nothing is concrete on it, even though there are rules and grammar you are supposed to follow, everyone has their own way. I got a lot from Stephen King’s book On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.

    • Aw, thanks, Kel! I loved reading On Writing. It’s such a great book. I learned a lot about writing and a lot about Stephen King that I hadn’t known before. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about writing. 🙂🙂

  4. One reason to love reading…it seems likely to fend off some of the awful things from “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s very important to use cash, and it’s very important to read books.
