Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Genre I Want to Read More of This Year

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well! It’s time for post number 12 in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you want to join in the challenge, you can find this year’s list of topics here, and if you’d like to read other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can do that here.

A Genre I Want to Read More of This Year

I read in a wide variety of genres, and sometimes, I’ll get stuck on one genre for a while, then spend a lot of time reading another. But there are a couple of genres I definitely want to read more of this year.

Fantasy
I love fantasy, but books in that genre can be incredibly long. Lately, I’ve been opting for books I can read in a couple of sittings. I hate books that are so long that you get to the end, having forgotten some of what happened at the start.

Poetry
I’m always writing poetry, and often what fuels me is more poetry. The problem is that if I read a ton of it while I’m in creative mode, then I can get a little lost. I feel like my style becomes a little muddled with the other poems I’m reading. I’m taking a tiny break from writing poetry at the moment, so I’ll be reading some collections to refill my “inspiration tank”.

Graphic Novels
Though technically a format rather than a genre, I thought I’d include graphic novels and comic books as a way to set my intention to read more of them. I love reading these books—they’re an excellent form of escapism for me, but I haven’t had the chance to indulge lately. I’m certainly going to rectify that this year!

Well, this was post 12! How are we 12 weeks into 2026 already?

As always, thanks so much for reading my words!

Until next time,

George

  1. For me it is the opposite. I have read a lot of fantasy books in recent years. It is like the more you read, the more you want. I think I need to turn a bit towards the classics. I am a bit weak on them 😦
