New Books I’m Looking Forward to This Year

Happy New Year, everyone! 2026! Wasn’t the millennium like two years ago? I remember it so clearly. It’s almost like no time has passed.

Anyway, I digress!

This first post asks what new books I’m looking forward to this year. Well, here are a few:

The Midnight Train by Matt Haig (releasing 21 May 2026)
While the book apparently has no direct links to Haig’s previous work, The Midnight Library, he has described it as a spiritual successor. In a similar vein to the former, the Midnight Train allows passengers to go back in time and relive the most important moments of their lives. For all of you who’ve read his work before, you’ll know how good Haig’s writing is. You’re drawn in before you realise it’s happening, then you’re gripped. That’s been my experience, anyway.

A Particularly Nasty Case by Adam Kay (releasing 21 May 2026)
Adam Kay is a doctor-turned-writer whose memoirs of his time as a doctor have been best sellers and a TV series called This is Going to Hurt. A particularly Nasty Case, however, is his first foray into novel writing. It follows Dr Eitan Rose, as he suspects a fellow doctor has been murdered, even though he seems to be the only one who thinks so. It sounds intriguing, and I look forward to reading it.

Meet the Newmans by Jennifer Niven (releasing on 15 January 2026)
Set in the 1960s, this one tells the story of The Newmans, America’s favourite TV family, who have spent years playing picture-perfect versions of themselves on screen. However, their projected perfect image is a lie, and behind the scenes, the family is falling apart.

According to Amazon, fans of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Lessons in Chemistry will enjoy this book, and I loved both of those, so this is very appealing to me.

Well, that’s week one of 2026 done! I’m intrigued to know what you’re all looking forward to reading this year!

As always, thanks for spending time with me today! It really does mean a lot!

Until next time,

George

  3. What a great list, George. I’m more familiar with Haig’s children’s books. Thanks for sharing. Hope you get to read these.
