Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Popular/Famous Books I Don’t Plan to Read

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2025 here, and if you’d like to read others’ responses to this week’s topic, you can do so here.

Popular/Famous Books I Don’t Plan to Read

War and Peace
War and Peace is not for me; at 1,225 pages, it’s just far too long. I had planned to read it at one point, but I kept putting it off. Eventually, I came to the realisation that my life would not be altered in any substantial way if I skipped it. So that’s what I’ve decided to do.

Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones was an incredible TV series—the final few episodes notwithstanding- but the books feel daunting. There are so many of them and so many characters and storylines to keep track of that when I consider the time it would take, I realise I’d be taking away time to read other stories—ones to which I don’t already know most of the outcomes. Also, the books can be over 1,000 pages long.

The Bible
The Bible is the best-selling book of all time. So, I’d say it’s pretty popular. I grew up in a very Catholic family with all the traditions and the rituals that go with it. My nanna tried her utmost best to get me to believe in god, read the bible and learn about it in Sunday school, but it’s just not for me. I think I’m too analytical for religion. I can’t switch off the logical part of my brain. I cannot accept “just because” as an answer. I love science too much.

I did try. I pretended to believe in god to make her happy until going to church every week made me deeply unhappy. By the time I grew up, we’d come to develop a healthy respect for one another’s beliefs; I envied her blind faith, and I’m sure she pitied my lack thereof.

Anyway, that’s enough for post 41! What are some books you don’t plan to read?

Thanks very much, as always, for reading my post!

Until next time,

George

  1. War and Peace is definitely ambitious, but interesting. You never know if you might be inspired one day!

  2. Honestly, I have the same reaction to the Bible. To each their own, but I’d rather read other things.

  3. I would like to read War and Peace just to say I have, but I’m okay with not reading it either. Game of Thrones will never be for me. The Bible is one of those books that one can be read in spurts, but it’s not a beginning to ending kind of book. I like the New Testament better than old, and I read Psalms and Proverbs. I admire someone who reads the Bible over a year’s time, but not happening in my world.

Thanks for sharing, George. Appreciate your visit to my blog.
