Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. It’s Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you would like to partake in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2025 here, and if you would like to read what others had to say about today’s topic, you can do so here.
Favourite Book Covers and Why
The Great Gatsby
I love the cover of this edition of The Great Gatsby, with the flapper’s disembodied eyes. It’s in the Art Deco style, and the blue really catches your eye. I think it’s beautifully timeless.

The Stepford Wives
I love the cover of this book. I know there are a few different covers—but my favourite is this orange version, with a ‘housewife’ dusting depicted in grey/silver. I think it’s very striking and certainly leaves an impression.

The Killing Joke
I loved The Killing Joke. It’s one of my favourite graphic novels. The artwork is superb, and that includes the cover. The image of the Joker holding a camera is just so striking—and even though it covers half of his face, it still captures his sadistic nature, with the camera being a significant part of the story.

A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol is a firm favourite, and I have it in a couple of versions; one in a collection of Dickens’ Christmas stories and this beautifully clothbound book in red, white and gold that I received as a gift from my husband one Christmas. It’s eye-catching, to say the least.

Hans Christian Andersen’s Complete Fairy Tales
This one was another gift from my husband, who, knowing how much I love fairy tales, thought I’d love it, and I do. It’s beautiful, and the picture doesn’t do it justice. The red roses actually sparkle a little bit, and the pages are edged with gold. It’s one of the most beautiful covers I’ve seen.

Beauty and the Beast and Other Classic Fairy Tales
Another gift from my ever-thoughtful husband. I love the colours and the designs on the back. Again, the picture doesn’t quite do the book justice, but even here, it looks fantastic.

Well, that’s me for today!
As always, thanks so much for reading my post. It means a lot.
Until next time,
George

Great choices, George. As much as I dislike the story, the cover for The Great Gatsby is fabulous. I almost added A Christmas Carol to my list as well. Thanks for sharing.
