Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Wednesday, and it’s time for another post in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. If you’d like to participate in the challenge, you can find the list of topics for 2024 here. If you’re interested in reading other people’s responses to this week’s topic, you can do so here.
A Genre I Want To Read More Of
I have always been a fan of Stephen King‘s books because, growing up, they were the only fodder available, with both my parents being avid fans of them.
However, as I began to read more widely, I found myself reading fewer horror novels and more science fiction and fantasy — and although I do read a variety of genres, I have mostly stayed in that lane ever since.
I have written a few scary stories over the years and hope to write more in that genre, but I think I’m a bit rusty. The only way to become better, though, is just to do it. So, in the near future, I’m going to increase my consumption of horror stories so that I can once again be better acquainted with how they’re structured.
My favourite Stephen King stories (in case you’re interested) are IT, The Shining and Misery. I also love his short story collections, my favourite being Skeleton Crew, featuring the short story The Jaunt.
Well, that’s post 40, if you can believe it! I wonder which genres you all want to read more of.
As ever, thanks for stopping by. It means the world!
Until next time,
George

Good luck with your scary stories! And I used to read a ton of horror but got away from it. Recently discovered Ronald Malfi, who I enjoy. Also, Isabel Canas, but her stories are more like Gothic horror set in Mexico. Good stuff.

Stephen King is a classic for most readers. I, personally, can never get through one of his books. He takes much too long to tell the story. Shoot, even when I try to watch one of his movies, he still takes forever. The only good (exciting) parts to his stories are the ending. Good example: Carrie.

Yeah, many people find his writing hard to get into, and he does meander a fair bit, but personally, I think the overall experience is of many (though not all) of his books is an immersive one.

I have (had) never been a horror reader myself, but ended up in a critique group with some horror writers (there does seem some SFF/Horror overlap) so I’ve found myself reading some in recent years.

Yeah, horror has the ability to mix quite well with other genres.
