Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today is Friday, and it’s time for another review. Today, I am reviewing Andy Cohen’s Glitter Every Day: 365 Quotes From Women I Love.
Glitter Every Day: 365 Quotes From Women I Love was initially published in December 2021 by St Martin’s Press and is 384 pages long.
The Plot
Glitter Every Day: 365 Quotes From Women I Love is a compilation of inspiring and empowering quotes from a glut of influential women, including entrepreneurs, politicians, activists, and entertainers who mean something to the author in one way or another.
Characters
There is no shortage of characters within this little quote compendium and far too many to list, so I won’t attempt to.
Writing Style
Glitter Every Day is a light and easy read, and since each page contains a single quote, it is relatively short.
As for structure, the book is organized as a daily calendar, with each page featuring a different quote and a brief biography of the woman who said it. This format makes it easy to read and digest one quote per day (or all 365 in one day, as I did), but it also allows readers to skip around since there is no narrative flow.
One thing that sets Glitter Every Day apart from other quote books is the sheer diversity of the women included, with Cohen’s choices representing a wide range of different races, ages, and backgrounds. The book highlights the voices and experiences of women from all walks of life, making it an essential read for anyone looking to be inspired and motivated.
Each quote seems to have been carefully selected from the women who have made a mark in their respective fields, which range from politics and entertainment to sports and literature. The list includes names like Michelle Obama, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé, and, as I mentioned under “Characters”, too many more to list. Each quote is designed to inspire readers to live their lives with confidence, courage, and determination, and they cover a wide range of topics, from self-confidence and self-care to career success and social activism.
Cohen also weaves personal anecdotes and reflections into the collection of quotes, making the book feel more personal and offering insight into how these quotes have impacted his life and worldview.
All things considered, the book is an inspirational and uplifting read that compiles the wisdom and insights of some of the most powerful and influential women on the planet. It is a tribute to the resilience and strength of women, and it encourages readers to celebrate themselves and their unique journeys through the world and turbulent times we find ourselves living in.
Final Thoughts
I must admit that when I first saw this book, I figured it was just a way for Andy Cohen to make some quick money. I mean, it’s a quote a day. At first glance, it appears there isn’t much substance to the book. However, pushing through my initial cynicism, I found myself very intrigued because, whilst some of the quotes are funny, throwaway lines, many are rather profound and stopped me in my tracks.
Some of my favourites are:
“A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong it is until it’s in hot water.” —Eleanor Roosevelt.
“I am a marvellous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man I keep his house.” —Zsa Zsa Gabor.
“HIV does not make people dangerous to know, so you can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it.” —Princess Diana.
“You can disagree without being disagreeable.” —Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Overall, the book is a beautifully curated collection of quotes that celebrate women from all over the world and not, as I had, at first suspected, a rundown of all the one-liners said by each of the women from The Real Housewives franchise. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few Housewives taglines thrown in the mix, but most of the quotes are meaningful, making Glitter Every Day a must-read for anyone looking to be inspired.
This book pleasantly surprised me, so I’m giving it a 6/10.
Have you read Glitter Every Day? What are your thoughts?
Thank you, as ever, for reading my review. I really appreciate it!
Until next time,
George
