Sometimes, a Sneeze is Just a Sneeze

15 Sep 2020 9:00 am

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well. I’m sharing a poem with you today, and this one was inspired, in part, by my own somewhat overactive response to a simple, yet important bodily function. In the times we live in currently, amid all that is COVID, it can be easy to forget that not everything is out to kill you.

Sometimes, a Sneeze is Just a Sneeze

How does one cope in this day and age
When upon a blustering breeze
A speck of pollen or grain or dust
Can induce an almighty sneeze?

In private, it’s no problem
Wipe your nose and wash your hands
There’s no one there to berate you
About where your effluence lands

In public, it’s problematic
Because a sneeze can cause a scene
When the country is gripped by a virus
The people can be quite mean

Nobody can help it
We can react a little quick
We’re conditioned to flinch at the slightest sniff
And assume everyone is sick

But sneezing’s a natural process
A protective bodily act
And, these days it can cause panic
Regardless of this fact

But please, just try to keep in mind
That if someone happens to sneeze
Their nose is likely ticklish
And not lousy with disease

As always, thank you so much for reading my words, it really does mean a lot!

Until next time,

George
