Hi everyone! I haven’t done one of these writing tips posts for a while, so I thought I’d write one today. So without further ado, here are another six writing tips to help keep you writing.

Utilise Social Media
Apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all have large communities of writers and other artists who offer a wide range of tips and support. Social media is also an excellent way to market yourself, and it can be a great way to share your work and get your name out there. In any case, it’s well worth having a look to see what they’re all about.

Make Mistakes
Never be afraid to make a mistake. Mistakes are how we learn life lessons, and it’s just the same when it comes to writing. If we never made any writer mistakes, how would we know what not to do the next time? Also, sometimes mistakes can lead to new story ideas that you may not have thought of otherwise.

Then What Happens?
When you’re planning your story, it’s a good idea to keep asking yourself, ‘then what happens?’ It will help you to build up a big picture view of where your story is headed, and it can also help to plan out your character arcs.

Causality is the way Forward
In keeping with the above, you should always aim to have your scenes follow a pattern of cause and effect. One event should impact the next and so on until the resolution where all your loose ends will be tied perfectly in a little bow – or not. Everything happening in your story should happen for a reason, and the reason should never be, ‘just because.’ Keeping this in mind when you write will help to keep your plot strong and moving forward.

Be Prepared to Work Hard
It can never be said enough that writing is not easy. Sometimes, new writers can be shocked and surprised by the amount of time, planning and dedication it can take to amass even a small amount of work.

Join a Writing Group
Writing groups can be an excellent way to find support and advice should you need it. There may be groups that are local to you where you can go and socialise and discuss one another’s work. If there aren’t any nearby, then perhaps you could start one? In any event, there are many writing groups on Facebook that are full of like-minded writers who will be more than happy to lend a helping hand.
